View Buttons: Pan, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom Extents, Zoom Window
These buttons control the display area of the map.
PAN moves the map by dragging it. Click the PAN button, then click and hold on the map. Move the pointer in a direction, and the map will move with the pointer.
ZOOM IN/OUT changes the visible area of the map. If you were flying overhead in a helicopter, zoom IN would be like dropping your height: you would see less area and features would appear larger. Zoom OUT would be like gaining altitude: you would see more area, but features would appear smaller. Both IN and OUT keep the map centered where it is currently located. Both act on the map immediately without the need to click on the map.
ZOOM EXTENTS will view all of the area contained in your project’s data. For example, if your project includes all of the roads in your town, the extent is your town. If you also include all of the towns in your state, Zoom Extents will view the entire state.
ZOOM WINDOW allows you to both zoom in / out and pan simultaneously. Note that the direction you draw the box determines whether you zoom in or out. Click on ZOOM WINDOW then click and hold on the map. Move the pointer to draw a box around the area
To Zoom Window IN, draw the box down and to the right from your starting point.
To Zoom Window OUT, draw the box to the left or up from your starting point.
